With Chai Masala Powder enjoy a quick cup of masala chai with ease. A pantry staple, it elevates my chai experience without having to put much effort everytime I need a cup. You’re going to love this handy spice mix!

Chai Masala Powder For Your Masala Chai
If you love spiced tea, this homemade chai masala powder will quickly become a staple in your kitchen. It’s a fragrant mix of cardamom, ginger, black pepper, fennel seeds and cloves that turns a regular cup of chai into a rich and flavorful cup. I didn’t grow up with masala chai, but after moving to Dubai, I fell in love with it—especially masala chai and karak chai. The flavors and warmth made it a daily treat I looked forward to.
If you make masala chai regularly like I do—or if you’re busy with work or kids—you know how time-consuming it can be, with all the crushing of ginger and measuring out spices. That’s where this chai masala powder is a real game-changer. You can even make a quick microwave masala chai (gasp!) in minutes when you’re pressed for time. While you can use this mix in baked goods or oatmeal, I prefer to use my chai spice blend specifically made for that.
Feel free to adjust the spice level to suit your taste and make it your own!

Making chai masala powder is very simple. You just need to blend all the spices in spice grinder or pound them in a mortar and pestle (if you have one).
Add all the ingredients to a spice grinder and grind until they become a fine powder.

Strore the masala powder in an airtight container.
How to Use Chai Masala Powder
It definitely is a personal preference but I’d start off with ½ tsp chai masala powder per cup of tea. Add the chai masala powder to the pan of water along with tea leaves and let it come to a boil.
If you want a more stronger flavor, I suggest adding 1/4 tsp more per cup.
Recipe Tips
- For the best aroma and flavor, grind fresh spices instead of using pre-ground ones (apart from ground ginger, of course!).
- This chai spice mix will keep fresh in an airtight jar up to 3 months.
- Make sure you keep your spices in a cool dark place, away from sunlight to extend shelf life.
