- Ground turkey – Lean turkey works great, but if you want even more flavor, you can use a mix of light and dark meat.
- Oil – Helps brown the turkey meat and since we use lean meat helps with flavor as well.
- Ready-made salsa – This adds moisture and flavors of onion, garlic and tomatoes without all the prep work. A homemade salsa can also be used.
- Taco seasoning

- Heat a pan over medium heat and cook the ground turkey until it’s no longer pink. Use a meat chopper or spoon to break down any larger pieces.
- Add the oil and taco seasoning, and cook until the turkey is fully coated and cooked through.
- Pour the salsa over the turkey and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. You can leave it slightly wet or cook a bit longer until the liquid reduces but the turkey remains moist, not dry.
- Adjust seasoning and add salt or more taco seasoning if necessary.
Recipe Tips
- Meat chopper is your best friend when cooking ground meat. It’ll break up large chunks of meat so it cooks evenly.
Seasonings For Ground Turkey
Sauce: You can use marinara sauce instead of the salsa. I used Tostitos medium salsa but you can use your preferred brand or salsa or even a homemade salsa.
Spices: Fajita seasoning would be a good swap. Or a mix of 1 tsp smoked paprika, 1/2 tsp ancho chili powder, 1/2 tsp cumin powder, 1/2 garlic powder, 1/2 tsp onion powder, 1/2 tsp dried oregano and 1/2 tsp salt.
What To Make With Ground Turkey
One of our favorite ways to enjoy this ground turkey is in quesadillas and my kids just can’t get enough every time I make them! That’s how I know it’s a family favorite!
All you have to do is stuff a tortilla with this seasoned ground turkey, sprinkle some shredded cheese, and heat it up on a pan or air fry them until the cheese is melted and the quesadilla is crispy. When you take a bite, the melted cheese and flavorful turkey mix together with the crispy tortilla making it delicious and perfect!
Storage
They are best stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 5 days, and can be frozen too. Cool the seasoned turkey, place it in a container, and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before using.
